The Healing Powers of Eucalyptus Oil

Fragrances Can Heal, Too!

In today’s world, we are bombarded with chemicals and toxins from all angles; from the food we eat to the air we breathe, to even the clothes we wear. It is practically impossible to escape them, so we must do what we can to protect ourselves and support our bodies’ healing capabilities.

The main way we do this is through diet. Eating a primarily plant-based diet with as many whole, unprocessed foods is foundational to our physical, mental, and emotional health. Unfortunately, the toxins in processed foods make their way to our brains, where they wreak havoc on our cognitive function, nervous system function, and so much more.

Exercise is another key element in keeping our bodies strong and healthy. But did you know that there is a third, less obvious way we can heal?

It’s through fragrances! Of course, we’re not talking about just any random fragrance, and certainly not chemical-based ones.

Essential Oils for Healing

We’re referring to essential oils, which have been used for thousands of years for their medicinal and healing properties. Essential oil use dates back to 4500 BCE, when the Ancient Egyptians used them along with herbs, vegetables and fruits to prepare various healing ointments. Aromatic essential oils were first used in China and India between 3000 and 2000 BCE. Some examples of essential oil ingredients used at that time are cinnamon, myrrh, ginger, and sandalwood.

The Ancient Greeks caught on to this long-time trend a bit later, beginning their use at around 500-400 BCE. They employed the use of peppermint, thyme, cumin, marjoram, and saffron, along with many other herbs and spices.

Today we’re going to focus on one powerful essential oil - eucalyptus. This fragrant leaf is a potent, wonderful-smelling healing tool that can provide us with many benefits.

The Power of Eucalyptus

The eucalyptus tree is native to Australia, and there are actually several types of eucalyptus trees. Eucalyptus Globulus is the source of eucalyptus essential oil, which is made by extracting the oil from its dried leaves. This uniquely powerful and versatile oil has a primarily woody, forestry scent with minty overtones and hints of sweet honey and bright citrus.

This bright, bold scent is one reason eucalyptus is used to relieve congestion, clear stuffy noses, and aid in respiratory health. Eucalyptus acts on the receptors in the nasal mucous membranes, helping to relieve stuffiness. It also loosens phlegm when inhaled.

As a primary ingredient in Lèlior’s Creative Aromatherapy fragrance oil, eucalyptus is combined with bright notes of tangerine, mandarin and orange, and balanced out with a hint of woody musk and galbanum.

To help relieve nasal and chest congestion, put a few drops of Creative in a pot of simmering water and inhale the steam.

To enjoy the scent of eucalyptus in your bedroom, living room, or kitchen, place Creative in your wireless L’Etoile diffuser to enjoy the cleansing effects of eucalyptus. Made for scenting up to 600 square feet, L’Etoile is lightweight and easy to transfer from room to room.

Another aromatherapy oil that contains the healing powers of eucalyptus is Energy. Aside from energizing, with its grapefruit and mint top notes, Energy contains base notes of eucalyptus and chamomile, adding the perfect amount of soothing balance to this invigorating fragrance oil.

Eucalyptus is known for its anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxing properties, which makes it a great option for healing aches and pains of all kinds, even post-surgical pain. Simply add a few drops of Energy, Creative, or Calm to a carrier oil such as avocado oil, coconut oil, or olive oil. Then, massage it in to enjoy the relief your body needs.

For a real treat, add a few drops of Energy to your shower floor during your morning shower, and enjoy its refreshing scent as the steam releases its stimulating aroma. What a great way to start the day!

You can do the same with Calm during your evening shower, as you let the magical combination of eucalyptus and lavender help you wind down for a restful night’s sleep.

Speaking of calm, eucalyptus is a wonderful stress reliever, as it has long been known to relieve anxiety. It has also been shown to help lower blood pressure. Calm is a wonderful aromatherapy fragrance oil that promotes feelings of tranquility and serenity. Along with eucalyptus, it contains lavender and chamomile, well-known for their relaxing properties.

Place Calm directly in your diffuser of choice, or you can add a few drops of it to one of our 30+ all-natural fragrance oils.
