Coty is celebrating a century of innovation with a fragrance event in Paris.

After 120 years, Coty remains a leader in fragrance with long-lasting scents and sustainable practices, including upcycled materials.
A Legacy of Innovation
Coty’s history began with the visionary work of François Coty, who revolutionized the industry in 1904 by blending synthetic molecules with pure, natural ingredients to create perfumes that set a new standard. The company's debut fragrance, La Rose Jacqueminot, epitomized this approach.
Sue Nabi, Coty’s CEO, elaborated on the company’s continued legacy. “Coty is once again at the forefront of shaping the fragrance landscape,” Nabi stated, “solidifying our position as the go-to partner for brands looking to create iconic scents.
Coty Combines Artistic Creativity with Cutting-Edge Science
Over a century after reshaping the landscape of fragrance creation, Coty continues to be a leader in innovation. The company's current focus is on three critical pillars that drive its success:
- Unmatched Performance: Coty remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of fragrance longevity and complexity. Through the latest scientific advancements, the company creates scents that not only captivate the senses but also offer exceptional staying power. By refining the molecular structures of their fragrances, Coty ensures that each creation delivers a sophisticated olfactory experience that lasts.
- Emotional Connection: At the heart of Coty's fragrance development lies the ability to evoke deep emotional responses. Each scent is carefully crafted to tap into human emotions, using the power of scent to create a lasting impression. Coty draws on a rich history of perfumery and marries that knowledge with modern insights into how smell influences mood and memory. This ability to capture and express emotion through scent sets Coty apart as a visionary in the industry.
- Commitment to Sustainability: As the world increasingly moves towards eco-conscious production, Coty leads by example with its dedication to sustainability. The company prioritizes responsible practices, particularly through the use of upcycled ethanol in fragrance production. This innovative approach allows Coty to minimize its environmental footprint by repurposing waste materials into high-quality ingredients. Coty’s commitment to sustainability reflects its long-standing ethos of merging innovation with responsibility. Through sustainable practices, Coty is doing its part to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy beautiful scents without compromising the planet.
An Immersive Celebration
The event in Paris offers visitors a deep dive into Coty’s history and its ongoing contributions to the fragrance industry. The exhibition features interactive installations that allow guests to explore the iconic scents Coty has produced over the decades, such as CK One, Boss Bottled, Burberry Goddess, and many more.
“This event showcases our expertise and passion for fragrance as Coty embarks on its next chapter as a beauty leader,” said Coty Chief Brands Officer, Jean Holtzmann.
A Glimpse Into the Future
Coty’s event wasn’t just about honoring the past—it was also a celebration of what lies ahead. The company’s vision for the future, rooted in its Infiniment Coty line, reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of the fragrance industry through the use of ethically sourced ingredients and cutting-edge technologies. As part of this forward-thinking approach, Coty continues to push the boundaries of fragrance creation.
Nabi highlighted the company’s groundbreaking contributions to two of the most influential olfactive families, which now account for 40 to 50 percent of the company's total sales. The first is the chypre family, characterized by a blend of bergamot, oak moss, patchouli, and labdanum.
"It was a totally new way to compose a fragrance," Nabi noted, explaining how the chypre family became the foundation for many famous fragrances from the 1990s through today. Coty is also credited with the creation of the amber accord, another popular fragrance family found in modern perfumery.
Coty’s celebration in Paris reaffirms its role as a transformative and unstoppable force in the fragrance world.
